Hi Virginia, I started posting on the Wilburn genfourm in 1998. You can find my stuff all over this site. I've had to revise my thinking, too. I've try to provide a short version here. (Will skip documents, etc.) Richard Wilburn York VA delinquent of taxes in 1656. I strongly suspect he's my direct ancestor. (Due to cluster families of that era.)Next stop Middlesex Co VA c 1720, if not much sooner. Dunno? Big gaps and lack of documents. Next spotting is Lousia Co VA (1746) road work. Richard Wilburn is living near South Anna River. Land borders on Ragland's property. (Generations later, some Ragland has a middle name of Wiburn) But no records survive to make connection. Next, Richard purchases land from John Page on Lickening Hole Creek in Goochland, VA (1750), He later dies in Goochland, Va in debt in 1756. Married to Ann Whitlock. no will. Pieces of Goochland, VA court records, along with Douglas Register identify some of his children. One son later relocates to Amherst Co VA. Also named Richaard. My Direct ancestor. The one I strongly suspect of being married to a Hughes woman. Richard's known sons are: Richard, William m to Eda Guttery in Amherst Co VA, Lewis m to Susan Blevins (Lewis and family lived in Wilkes co NC c 1800. His son Lewis jr. b 1801 m Elizabeth Fitzpatrick. (Wm b c 1760 married to Eda Guttery lives out his life in Giles, VA) other brothers include: Robert m to Manerva Williams, and Stephen b 1766 VA m to Morning Walling (related to Elisha Wallen, noted Long Hunter.) I have over 3800 surnames in my FTM. I have never spent time on the Hughes line. Too hard! But have always considered them of real interest. Even more now that I've visited your website. Cheers again, Vikky Notify Administrator about this message?
