Well Virginia, My work is cut out for me. What a terrific website. Indeed we two have many shared ancestors. Mine are just hidden away from your, but trust me. They're there. I noted with considerable interest many of the families in your website. Too many to cite here: But I'll provide one of two examples: Lewis Wilburn b 1802 TN or NC (four census records are devided on his State of birth)...m Elizabeth Fitzpatrick. Fast forward: I named my youngest son Jamison Fitzpatrick Kimbrough. (b 1966)...I wanted to provide him the the initials of JFK, due to my love of President Kennedy. And it was my Dad's suggestion that I reach back and give him a family surname: Hence Fitzpatrick. Until I read your website, I had no idea of a Fitzpatrick/Hughes marriage. Very neat to learn these things. Absolutely! Now Lewis Wilburn (Jr) m to Eliz Fitzpatrick was the grandson of Richard Wilburn who lived in Amherst Co VA in 1787m if not sooner. (Richard appears on tax roll that year and also signed a marriage bond for his son William to marry Eda Guttery tha same year. (I strongly suspect that at least one of his wives ws a Hughes. Eda Guttery Wilburn and husband William soon after settled into what is now Giles, Co VA. (He's the Wm who arrived with David Hughes.) He and Richard Wilburn can both be found, side by side, on 1787 Tax records in that district. I strongly suspect that Richard was a brother. What I can say with certainty is that there were two men named John Wilburn b in what is now Giles, VA. One b.in 1792 and the other in b 1796. Both are buired in the Wilburn cemetary in Wilburn Valley. So it would appear that two Wilburn brothers lived in giles, VA. William was alive until sometime after 1840. Side note here: Strickly heresay. When I first started researching my ancestors, a number of people sent their pedigrees to my older cousin, via snail mail. I recall seeing a Wilburn/Taliferro marriage in one such pedigree. I have no idea who sent this information. Or how many years ago, this was written up. But a surname that stuck in my mind all of these years. My early cluster families consists of surnames: Whitlock/Guttery/Christian/Christmas/Philpott, families with roots in York and later Middlesex Co VA. In Goochland, VA, some Wilburns married into families with the following surnames: OWEN/PAGE/SHIPP/BOWLES/CHRISTIAN/WHITLOCK (Same Shipp line as Harry S Truman.) Which might explain a Wilburn Truman. President Obama also has Welborn/Wilburn ancestors. They are from a different line of emigrant Edward Welborn who later died in Baltimore Co MD. His Welborn descendants relocated to NC mixing up with a bunch of my own Wilburn ancestors and causing considerable confusion. We Wilburns are also DNA testing. I have yet to see the results from my first male cousin, R Wilburn. Eager to find out if we have matches between other Wilburns with roots in Sussex, and along VA counties along the NC borders. Virginia, again, many many thanks. Great Website! Vikky in San Diego Notify Administrator about this message?
