Hi Virginia, More tidbits here: How useful they are, dunno? I have three Via-Maupin marriages in my database. (No surprise here.) You know doubt know that Gabriel Maupin b c 1702 and son of French emigrant, was a noted explorer and Indian scout in his day. I show other men who followed of same name. It would appear that the three men living in Madison Co KY and all listed as Rev War Vets, whose names were David Maupin m to Jane Via, along with John and Thomas Maupin were brothers. Also I found a connection to the Maupin line to the Bottom line. Now this Bottom marriage is to a Needham. John Needham, along with Gabriel Arthur were the first known white men to trekk into KY and TN. It is believed that Gabriel Arthur married an Indian woman. (I don't know. Before my time) Gabriel was a servant of Needham. Born c late 1600's in VA. This Arthur line ties in (I think) with some of my Wilburn cluster families. As you know, if we go back three hundred years, we have approximately 1000 direct ancestors. So I try to trap as many suspects into my database as possible. I'm aware that it has been reported that Traper Hughes was possible Rees Hughes, m to sister of Pocahontas. That has long held interest for me. I have about 20 Via names in my database. About same number of Maupin surnames. Note however, what I entered into my database about Maupin line would come long after Rees Hughes. About four generations later. Love your part of the world. Lucky you! Cheers again, Vikky Notify Administrator about this message?
