Hughes Family Genealogy Forum

Forrest, thank you for your very interesting and thoughtful analysis of our Hughes family history. As we have discussed in the last several weeks, we believe our Hughes branches might be related.
My Hughes ancestor was Edward Hughes who we think was the son of Rees Hughes, Sr., and brother to Robert Hughes, Sr., who you have explained above. Edward was apparently married to Elizabeth Skiffen Anderson. Edward Hughes appears in the same records (such as the Quaker Monthly Meetings) as Robert and Sarah Hughes and Rees Hughes, Jr. Edward's branch of the family migrated on to Henrico (Tuckahoe Creek), Goochland, and then to Albemarle, Amherst and Nelson Counties.
Edward's only son that we know about was named Thomas Hughes, Sr. We think he was married first to Sarah Perkins and second to Mary Giles (Harding). Thomas Hughes, Sr.'s son, Thomas Hughes, Jr., lived at the James River, near Scottsville, in Albemarle County and his will was probated in 1779. He named two sons and two daughters in his will. The elder son named William was born in 1743 and the younger son named Moses was born was about 1745. Two daughters: Mary who married John Jude and moved to Powhatan County); Rebekah married Lewis Ball and also moved to Powhatan County. Moses married Elizabeth Ball and moved to the area that is now in Nelson County near Three Ridge. William Hughes lived in Albemarle County beside the James River at Scottsville. William Hughes is my ancestor and he married Mary unknown (some think her last name was also Ball).
We are trying to find Hughes descendants of these families to join the Family Tree DNA Hughes Surname Project. We have one Hughes descendant in the DNA project now who thinks he descends from the New Kent County Hughes family and we are waiting for the results of the DNA test.
