Joseph Hughes, Rev War, SC
Does anyone have any info on Joseph Hughes, a Rev. Soldier,
of SC.
He is mentioned three times in "Memoirs of Major Joseph McJunkin" a book by Rev. James Hodge Saye, first printed in the Richmond, Va. Watchman and Observer in 1847.
says:
page 11
Plan to Defend Their Homes (June)
....Brandon directed Joseph Hughes, William Sharp, John Savage, Aquilla Hollingsworth, Samuel Otterman, Benjamin Jolley and Joseph McJunkin to conceal it (powder formerly intrusted to Col. Thomas and as he considered its preservation of the greatest importance) with great care in the neighboring forests.

Battle of Cowpens......Two dragoons assault a large rifleman, Joseph Hughes by name. His gun was empty, but with it he parries their blows and dodges round a tree, but they still persist. At the moment the rifle carried by Hughes , now literally hacked over, slips out of his hands and inflicts such a blow upon the other dragoon the he quits the contest and retires hanging by the man of his horse......

A Surprise foor Whigs and Tories
A day or two before the Battle of King's Mountain a party of Whigs consisting of some 8 or 10 men were lurking about the thickets along Brown's Creek near Broad River to gain intelligence of both friends and enemies.JOSEPH HUGHES , John Savage, William Sharp, William Giles and Charles Crade are said to have been in the party and took a Tory prisoner.....
The reason I am interested in the above Joseph Hughes is maybe my line,
Pat Trussell
Everett Trussell, my father born 1896
Della Hughes , his mother, born 1871
William Harrison "Duck" Hughes born 1850, her father
Joseph Hughes, his father, lived near the area of the battles.
His father, maybe this Joseph Hughes
