Ms. Kiser,
Thanks you for your great info on the Amherst Co/Trader HUGHES story.I would like to point out an item in Ms. Seaman's book that might reveal her attention (or lack there of) to details surrounding the location of the old HUGHES cabin. She has a photo of a standing chimney that she reports is all that is left of the old HUGHES cabin. The photo is the chimney at mile post 58 on the Blue Ridge Parkway...located at 37.61014 x 79.32003 decimal degrees. This site is over four miles from Otter Creek! The real cabin remains arelocated at 37.55627 x 79.35203 decimal degrees.
The correct location can be confirmed from Wm Cabell's surveying notes.
Now all of us make mistakes, but I would have thought Ms Seaman would have confirmed the photo before she published her book!My web site contains a photo of the correct remains taken in the fall of 1999.This is not to say my photo in anyway confirms the legend of Trader, just the location of the cabin ruins in question.
