Information from my great aunt, descendant of John Huggins and Mary Gleason suggests Huggins came from France and were Huguenots driven out of France around 1600. They were skilled flax workers who ended up in Ireland where they inter-married with the Irish. The name according to her research in the late 1930's and early 1940's was Le Oughans. That later showed up as Hugans and finally Huggins. She does note, however, that some, at the time of her delving into her ancestry, cited Wales as where Huggins originated from. My ancestors were from Balleybay, Co. Monaghan, Ireland.
Descendant of: John Huggins (1806-1888); Widow Elizabeth (Hutchins) Curtis (1587-1658); Edward Colver (1610-1685); Elder John Birdseye (1566-1649); and John Tefft (1614-1679).
