Thank you for your reply. that information was mailed to me by Flora Hunt Pearson several years ago.I have since made contact with other people who have disproved some of the information she gave me.Whenever families name their children after their siblings, things begin to get confusing, and then it doesn't help that formal records are rare that far back.So I'm still grateful for Flora's information. My apologies that you did not get proper credit.I seem to be running into quite a bit of that myself. It's kind of a shock to find one's own material, word for word, attributed to someone else.I will correct my records to reflect this error.I have no doubt that you are correct about the violence that existed in Kentucky during that time period.Lawlessness thrived where people lived far apart, where people were known to be peaceable (and thereby thought not as likely to protect themselves), and where the peace-keepers were apt to "look in the other direction".I have read accounts of the treatment that the German immigrants received in 1700's Pennsylvania, how they were looked upon with disdain by the people in whose communities they came.It must've been so discouraging for our German ancestors to have come to this country to escape the unrest and bloodshed in their homeland and then find conditions as bad or worse once here.--Ilene
