A bit of clarification may be in order for your statement, "I am advised that Old Marriage records in Loudoun Co. are diffused due to neglect and/or disinerest on the part of people in charge. Different people over the years attempted reconstruct such records. Aurelia M. Jewell was one of the folks that helped reconstruct records."

It is true that many early marriage records in Loudoun are not available. The reason for this is unclear. Part of the blame may lie with circuit rider ministers who often left the county without giving their returns to the Loudoun court and may have given their returns to a court in another county. Some records may have been lost when the court records were removed and hidden during the Civil War period. Considering all the records which are available for early Loudoun County, it may not be fair to the clerks to state they neglected their duty.

The book by Mrs. Jewell covered marriage bonds beginning in the 1790's. The book by Wertz covered court marriage records, bonds, Quaker records, Lutheran church records, etc. There is also a book of marriages by Vogt & Kethley covering the same marriages.

The marriage book by Wertz states:
Huffman, Jacob & Catherine Koist. Cutlop Koist, bond made 22 June 1799. Minister: John Littlejohn (Methodist).

Cutlep Koist appears on the Personal Property Tax Lists from the later 1780's until 1801. His sons, Peter, Philip and Jacob, continue to appear on the lists beyond that year.
