I am aware that other researchers disagree with my theory. Perhaps these facts might prove the theory.

FACT:
1. John Huffman was s/o Phillip Huffman, the immigrant. He was b. 23 Oct 1741, Berks Co. PA, m. Margaret.

2. Known children are: Mary Huffman Davis, wife of Abel Davis of Loudoun Co., VA. Elizabeth Huffman Smith, wife of William Smith of Monongalia Co., VA and John Huffman , Jr., b. 21 Jan 1775, Bedford Co., PA m. Sarah Ann Godwin. All known children lived in Mononglia Co., VA.

3. "11 August 1806; Abel Davis and wife Mary, and William Smith and wife Elizabeth, both of Monongahela Co., Va., daughters of John Huffman, dec'd., appoint John Huffman, Jr., attorney to collect amount due from estate of their father John Huffman, late of Berks Co., dec'd. (Deed Book 22, 171)" Source: VA References in Berks Co. Records, PA Genealogical Magazine, Vol 23, No. 4 of 1964.

4. John Huffman d. 1792, Loudoun Co.,VA. Will Book D:252. 1792 naming heirs, Margaret, wife and sons Phillip, Peter and Henry. Witnesses James Rightmire & Peter Harman. The Will was executed 29 March and proved 10 Sept 1792. Henry was bequeathed 1 cow. Peter received 2 cows and one bay. Phillip received remainder of property consisting of livestock, plantation and corps in the ground subject to life maintenance proided to wife, Margaret.

5. From Loudoun Co Personal Tax Lists:

1791A [Second Battalion Huffman, John and Huffman, Phillip
1791A [Second Battalion Huffman, John Jr.
1792A [Second Battalion Hufman, John and Hufman, Phil
Thanks to Pat Duncan.

6. Of 17 tavern licenses granted in Monongalia in 1797 one was granted to Philip Huffman. Monongaila Co. History.

7. 174B - 1810 Monongalia County Court. Phillip Huffman summonsed to answer John Lyon. . .in a plea of covenant damages $60. 18 April, 4 June, and 27 August 1807. Three month note signed by Huffman to Charles Hull dated 27 March 1808 for $25. payable in bar iron, hollow ware, salt or cattle at market price & witnessed by Sam'l. Pearse & Jonathan Anderson. Assignment to William Hull date 2 Jun 1806 and witnesssed by Wm. Barnes. Assignment to Lyon dated __August 1806 . . . .Bail Bond for Huffman secured by John C. Payne, 20 Feb 1808. For fear he would be injured in this case, Payne took Huffman to jail on 19 Dec 1808 and Abel Davis secured bail for Huffman on 19 Dec. 1808. May Term 1810, judgment for plaintiff for the debt with 6% interest from 27 August 1806, John Reed, foremen. Judgment paid by Abel Davis.

8. 1809 Order allowing William Smith to be paid $62.62 for boarding, nourishing and washing furnished to Janey Grubb, one of the poor.

THEORY
1. John Huffman who d. in Loudoun Co., VA 1792 was the John Huffman, b. 1741 in Berks Co., VA.

2. Phillip Huffman, son of John and primary beneficiary of his Will was the same Phillip Huffman whose bail bond was secured by his brother-in-law, Abel Davis. From an underwriting point there was no reason for Abel Davis to accept the fidelity risk in securing a bond for Phillip Huffman other than the fact that Phillip was the brother of Mary Huffman Davis and to keep peace in his household.

3. No m. records were found in Loudoun Co. for either Mary or Elizabeth and their spouses. They possibly eloped about 1789 to Monongalia Co where the girls had lived previously. Monongalia Co. marriage & other records were destroyed by fire in 1796.
