Sharon,
Thanks for your email.Thought I would post what I wrote to you in case anyone else is interested. I went through all my old family papers and discovered that James Huffman's middle initial was "H" according to my late great aunt Alice Munger, who was his great niece and the granddaughter of Eliza Huffman (b. 9 Feb 1842), James's sister. She also wrote that the author of the book "Ups and Downs of a Confederate Soldier" was indeed James Huffman.I was not sure until recently that this was the same James Huffman as Eliza's brother, but now believe that they are the same man.Not only was JamesH. in the same 10th VA Infantry as Eliza's husband John Munger, but both men were also imprisoned in Elmira, NY by the Yankees.John Munger was captured at the Second Wilderness; I don't know when James H. Huffman was captured. Also, the James Huffman who wrote the book was born near Alma, Page County, VA.Eliza's father was also born near Alma.My great aunt was very specific about it being "near" Alma, not in it.I noticed that the historian John W. Wayland also gave author James Huffman's birthplace as "near" Alma in "John Hoffman of Germanna and Some of His Descendants."Guess I should have looked looked it all up before instead of trusting to my wretched memory.Sorry about that!
