I don't know much about these two particular people, but in Mason County,WV.,the town of Arbuckle sits on the north side of the Kanawha River while the hamlet of Southside, home of my branch of the Hudson family is nearly directly across the river.
Both the Hudson's and the Arbuckle families were early long hunters/ settlers in the Trans-Allegheny region and the eastern edge of the Ohio Valley,(Southside being about 12-14 miles above the confluence of the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers.) As a matter of fact when the Hudson's settled in Mason County, they settled on the north side of the Kanawha, near the Arbuckles.
As the ferry across the river passed near both towns,I'm sure that contact between the two families continued. As a matter of fact, when I was a boy and we traveled up the north side of the river,we often stopped at the Arbuckle's store. It seems to me that those Arbuckles had family in Missouri, but I'm trying to remember 40 year old conversations with a much older mind.
I realize this isn't much, but it shows the two families have been interacting for 250 odd years.
I do know that some of the local Hudson's are related to the Sigman's,another very large extended family Putnam,Mason, and Kanawha Counties in WV.
