re harris/ hunt/ hudson/ wade, etc families va
as indicated, per the lunenburg co, va records, i will cite, there is indicated to have been kinship re this william hunt, wife, mary, who was involved in lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va with both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson and this memucan hunt who was also involved with samuel harris.
can anyone tell me how this william hunt/ wife, mary, was related to memucan hunt?
per lunenburg co, va deed book 1, page?, 1750, william harris/ judith hudson sold to samuel harris 70 acres, island/ plantation in the staunton river, adjacent byrd's and cargill's islands, grant to william harris in 1748.witnesses:john cargill; william hunt.
william hunt witnessed other lunenburg co, va deeds re william harris/ judith hudson, etc but this is indicated to have been my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who sold land to william hunt, per this deed to follow:
lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 315, 1755, william harris of lunenburg to william hunt of same for 33 pds, 236 acres on both sides of the middle fork of the bluestone creek, bounded by a branch called the swamp; miller.witnesses:adam winders; richard palmer; robert wooding.
this robert wooding also witnessed other luneburg co, va deeds re my william harris, sr/ frances goode.
robert wooding married mary marable, daughter of william marable and it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who had the agreement with william marable re the plantation "finneywood" in 1746 in lunenburg co, va.
per mecklenburg co, va deed book 1, page 396, 1766, william hunt and wife, mary, to abraham crowder of amelia co, va for 170 pds, 236 acres on both sides of the bluestone creek in mecklenburg co, va and bounded by elam; moore; newsum; hudson.witnesses:james hall; john smith; martha smith, her mark.
this bluestone creek area where both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson lived became mecklenburg co, va by 1765 and this land that william harris, sr/ frances goode sold to william hunt is indicated to have been the same tract of land that william hunt and wife, mary, were now selling to abraham crowder.
in fact, my william harris, sr/ frances goode had sold land to this same john smith, wife, martha, which had been witnessed by abraham crowder:
lunenburg co, va deed book 6, page 528, 1761, william harris, and wife, frances, of lunenburg co, va to john smith of amelia co, va for 200 pds, 400 acres in lunenburg on both sides of the middle fork of the bluestone creek.witnesses:abraham crowder; peter hamlin; benjamin ragsdale.
these lunenburg co, va deeds show that although my william harris, sr/ frances goode continued to be called william harris of finneywood creek, these lunenburg co, va deeds show that they lived and continued to buy and sell land in this middle fork of the middle bluestone creek area.
this middle fork of the middle bluestone creek is indicated to have been in proximity to the woodpecker creek/ woodpecker fork area also of the bluestone creek where william harris/ judith hudson also lived.
in 1757, per lunenburg co, va land grants and patents, memucan hunt and samuel harris had a patent for 3750 acres also on the bluestone creek on woodpecker fork, adjacent land of mitchell; evans; cargill's road; goode's corner; worsham's lines; parish's lines; miller's lines; john wilborn's corner; robert southern's corner to woodpecker fork.
again, re the above john wilborn, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson; richard hudson, etc were involved with the will and estate of john wilborn 1757/ 1762 in luneburg co, va.
whereas my william harris, sr/ frances goode of finneywood creek is shown to have acted as the primary executor, john wilborn's land was in this woodpecker creek area and his son, thomas wilborn, continued to live in this same woodpecker creek area and to be involved with the same individuals and families there as william harris/ judith hudson.
here are several deeds re john and thomas wilborn relevant to these connections:
mecklenburg co, va deed book 1, page 113, 1765, benjamin hatcher of mecklenburg to william stone of lunenburg for 60 pds, 500 acres on persimmon branch of middle bluestone creek in mecklenburg co, va, being part of a tract that was formerly patented to benjamin hatcher and bounded by john wilborn.witnesses:joseph ragsdale; mark moore; john ragsdale; benjamin ragsdale.
as indicated in 1757, samuel harris and memucan hunt had this patent for 3, 750 acres on woodpecker fork of the bluestone creek, which bordered on john wilborn's corner, etc.
another lunenburg co, va patent dated 1763 shows that whereas samuel harris and memucan hunt or alexander robertson and his wife, martha, in whom the rights to the land had become vested had not cultivated the land or paid quit rents on it that the land was granted to benjamin hatcher who had subsequently petitioned for it.
mark moore who witnessed this deed re benjamin hatcher to william stone was one of the executors of william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will.
mark moore married rachel ragsdale, daughter of benjamin ragsdale, and moved with his brother-in-law peter ragsdale to this same little river area of laurens co, sc where my william harris, sr/ frances goode; my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and my mackerness goode, sr and his son, mackerness goode, jr had obtained grants thereca 1770/ 1772.
i know that our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, daughter of our john rodgers, sr/ esq also of lunenburg/ charlotte co, va, died in 1799 laurens co, sc.
i do not know where our william harris, sr/ frances goode died and although he had this grant in 1772 in now laurens co, sc adjacent my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers which, per 1796 laurens co, sc deed became the property of our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers as "son and heir at law", i do not know where our william harris, sr/ frances goode died or have definite proof that our william harris, sr/ frances goode actually moved to laurens co, sc.
again re john and thomas wilborn, there are these relevant deeds:
per lunenburg co, va deed book 6, page 387, 1761, william harris, finneywood, executor of the estate of john wilborn, per the order of john wilborn, deceased, sells to stephen willis 50 acres on woodpecker creek, at glasscocks lines.no selling price given and no witnesses.
as indicated, per the following deed, stephen willis, who had moved to halifax co, nc sold this same land to charles burton which was witnessed by john wilborn's son, thomas wilborn:
mecklenburg co, va deed book 1, page 475, 1766, stephen willis of halifax co, nc to charles burton of mecklenburg co, va for 55 pds, 50 acres on both sides of the woodpecker creek, bounded by glasscock, the patent line, a new line, including the plantation where stephen willis formerly lived.witnesses:hutchins burton; william hunt, jr; thomas wilborn, his mark; john lucas, his mark; henry hastins, his mark.
