Autosomal DNA Results
My "Family Finder" tests are back, and this autosomal DNA testing is really amazing me. It is supposed to go back 5 generations, on all sides, but it works far better than that.
On my Huddleston line, I am showing matches going back nine generations, so far. In this case, the matches are with the descendants of William Smart, b. abt 1720, d. abt 1790, of Rutherford Co., NC. His daughter Elizabeth Smart married my ancestor William Huddleston. Two of his sons, William Jr. and Thomas, married Huddlestons, as well.
It would be easy to assume that it is just the Huddlestons from their line that I match, but I also match the descendants of his son John Smart, as well as his daughters. His daughters (besides Elizabeth) were Margaret Smart, who married Thomas Robertson, Jane Smart, who married John Watson, Mary Smart, who married Daniel Allen. I am matching scads of Watsons, Robertsons, and some Allens, and those matches most likely come from those Smarts, since I have never seen anyone by the surname on any of my multiple ancestral lines. Anyway, using DNA testing, I have proved that my Huddlestons were descendants of William Smart, and that they were also descendants of William Huddleston and Elizabeth Smart.
Oh, and a bonus is that one of the direct male line descendants of William Smart, Sr., who matches my autosomal DNA, has already been Y-DNA tested.
The above data applies to Huddleston DNA Project Kit #105725 (my line).
