Anna, I think you and I agree about much more than we disagree. I've cited a lot of records, but no solid evidence concerning "John Huddleston and Elizabeth Charlton." I've seen records that the son John, b. 1712, or 1715, or 1720 or "before 1720) rose to captain in the Virginia Militia in the A.R.War - never mind that he'd have been at least 55 years old when the war began and 63 when it ended. I strongly doubt that the John Huddleston who received a land bounty warrant in Lunenberg County VA was this person. Same with his claimed brother Daniel, b. 1710, or 1715, or 1720, also claimed as a captain in the ARW and the husband of Mary Ball (George Washington's aunt.) Anybody who can find solid evidence of this in either Huddleston or Ball records has outdone me! It's true that a Daniel Huddleston was a captain in the ARW and wrote a letter to his brother, but I've seen no proof that he was a son of a John Huddleston and Elizabeth Charlton. I've taken DNA tests, that show matches to people claiming Daniel and his assumed brother Benjamin Huddleston. All this tells me is that within about 1000 years, these men and I have a common ancestor. Sarah Frances Hudelson of Hon. George Huddleston's Tables wrote that she possessed a letter box embossed with the letters CR (Carolinus Rex, or King Charles I/II)that she inherited from her grandfather; "Fanny" said the box had been handed down from John Huddleston (h/o Elizabeth Charlton.) I strongly doubt this, and I've turned Indiana and Missouri upside down trying to find this box, or any heir of Fanny who has seen it -- no luck. Fanny claimed that the box contained tax records and other papers -- I don't know if these records involved John, Fanny's grandfather, Fanny's own records, or what. I'd very much like to find the box, and especially the records. My own earliest American ancestor is James Heddleston/Hudelson (L/1 in Hon. George's Tables0, who some say was a great grandson of Eliz. Charlton. But h's also said to be the uncle of his allegedly Irish-born son-in-law William Hudelson. If that's true (and I also question whether William was Irishh-born), then my James couldn't have been of English stock. So I keep hunting for a DNA partner descended from one of my James's sons (i descend from his elder daughter). So far, no luck. So, we agree. Our combined years of research still leave a lot to be discovered. If you'd like to correspond off-list, my email is dmh8620@bellsouth.net Notify Administrator about this message?
