Anna, I just re-read your posting saying that the supposed spouse of Elizabeth Charlton was JOHN HUDDLESTON, and not James, and asking where I got James as her spouse. On Rootsweb.com, I have found 25 web pages that show her spouse as John Huddleston, seven pages that show him as "James or John," six that show him as "James John," and one that shows him only as James. There also are several records on the (LDS) site, FamilySearch.org that show him as John, others as James, and others as James John and "James Or John." The book, "Colonial Families of the South" shows John Huddleston born 1693 in England and living in Norfolk County, VA in 1721 as father of five sons (John, Daniel, Thomas, Henry and Benjamin), but doesn't mention the mother's name. The copy of it in the Virginia State Library has the name Elizabeth Charlton penned in. None of these sources has documentation, and therefore all of them are suspect. (Some of the rootsweb pages have as many as eight sons, and conflicting dates of birth between them -- some obviously were copied from others.) I've never found reliable evidence that John Huddleston and Elizabeth Charlton ever existed in VA. I have found evidence (tax roles) that James Huddleston paid taxes in Norfolk County, VA in 1721. If the above-described sons actually existed, therefore, their father must have been James (or conceivably James John). There are LDS records, and some others, that show this James Huddleston as the father of John Huddleston, b. 1715, and he the father of James Heddleston/Hudelson of Mifflin County PA (he progenitor of Hon. George Huddleston's "Series L" and my seventh-generation ancestor). I have found no evidence to prove this, and considerable circumstantial evidence to question it.
