So, we got a fishing vessel, with three sails, cannons; it had a smaller boat with it for ship to shore messages; and it was a military ship. The fishing vessel we get from William Bradford's account; three sails is obtained from 'Records of the Virginia Company' because it had a pinnace-the smaller boat; cannons is based on William Jackson being a gunner for the Bona Noua; and the military is based Captain William Weldon account of 'armes' in his letter to Sir Edwin Sandys and the fact that Jabez Whittaker was a Lieutenant aboard the Bona Noua who also wrote about the Bona Noua. William Weldon, in his letter gives the departure time and date leaving London, England; the stops along the way and their eventual docking in James Citty, Virginia. The 'storm' and 'Caribo Islands' when put together with the account of William Wye's trouble with the 'Garland' lets us know how bad the storm was and that slaves were exchanged from the 'Garland' to the Bona Noua. The 'colledge' referred to was and is 'William and Mary'. 'William and Mary' in their quarterly has an account of Captain John Huddleston. From William Weldon's reconning of four months sailing and the stops lets us know it wasn't a straight shot from London, England to James Citty, Virginia. 'Metallina' and ' Mem's' is yet to be determined from the letter. The 'tennants' is referring to 'William and Mary' and ' Point Comfort' is yet to be determined. Henrico is mentioned. Samuel Matthews is mentioned who was a neighbor of Captain John Huddleston. 'Capemerchaunt' is yet to be determined. Thomas Smith was also a passenger aboard the Bona Noua and from other records we know the Bona Noua had a cooper. It is yet to be determined what 'cooper' is referring to but that 'cooper' is a person's job. It could be Thomas Smith's ship mentioned is referring to the 'Abigail' since a Thomas Smith was given a commission for the 'Abigail'.
