John Huckstep-Son of Samuel and Betty Will-VA to Kentucky
I am trying to locate information on John Huckstep who left VA for Kentucky. Have family record of a son Samuel being born, probably around 1784 maybe in Kentucky or VA. Looking for John's wife, Samuel's mother's name. Did she die in Kentucky?
John later married Sarah (Sally) Daviess in Jessamine Co, KY. It appears Samuel was his only son based on his will listed in Jessamine Co Ky Will Book B 1813 to March 1818. Samuel was already married to Martha Crowder at the time the Will was posted. Will does not show date of death for John. So he was probably still living when this appeared in the book.
Our family history shows that John was a Tax Collector and was killed along the Kentucky River near Frankfort. The son Samuel is said to have suffered the same fate later. Son Samuel appears to have served in Jessamine Co. militia under Capt Patrick Gray's Company, 5th regiment and fought at the Battle of River Raisin.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has additional information.
