I did get to the State Library and found a couple of books that describe the attack John Howland made and the reason behind the attack and some info from Gov Bradford's journal - light reading there!I wasn't able to get much info about the man John Hocking except that he sailed the Kennebeck are to intercept Indians going to Plymouth Plantation Trading Post.
Interestingly enough one of the older members of the Library volunteer staff told me that he has a steady stream of Huckins thru the library in the summer time and I'm about the 25th person who has asked about John Hocking. He indicated at one time he had located some additonal info on who he was and when I stop in again I'll ask if he has found it.I'm not convinced yet because there were Hocking descendants and the name Huckins was written as Huckins/ Huggins or variation with explanations in so many of the old Durham deeds and records but anything is possible. Thanks again
