Dear Mr. Johnson, I found your web site most fascinating, but there is one thing I'd DEFINITELY change about it. You say on there that Governor Huckabee "is currently running for President of the United States as a Democrat." Unless I am much mistaken, Governor Huckabee is a Republican. I came to this forum as I wondered if Governor Huckabee could be related to me. After months of seeing him on television, and thinking he looked "familiar," it just dawned on me yesterday that he looks quite a bit like my grandfather. (My grandfather died before I was born, so I only have pictures to tell me what he looked like.) I mentioned this to my mother, and she agreed with me....with much surprise on her part. She, too, said she always thought he looked familiar, but couldn't figure out why. My grandfather had Carrigan relatives who came from North Carolina to Hempstead County, Arkansas in the 1850s. When I realized that is where Governor Huckabee was from, I thought there would be bound to be a connection. However, I can't see one on your web site. In case it might be of any interest to anyone, my Carrigan lineage goes as follows: James Carrigan, Sr. (1714/6-1793) and his wife Isabel Brown (c.1726-1804) came from Cootehill, County Cavan, Ireland, to America in the 1750s. They settled first in Pa., then came to Orange Co., NC, and by 1775 were living in Mecklenburg (now Cabarrus) Co., NC. They lived on Coddle Creek, and are buried at the Coddle Creek Presbyterian (now ARP) Church cemetery, near Mooresville, NC. They had ten or eleven children, among them Jane Carrigan (b.1751, m. Samuel Pickens, and their son Israel Pickens was Governor of Alabama in the 1820s), William Carrigan (1760-1844, a soldier of the Revolution) and James Carrigan, Jr. (c.1770-1840). I have the names of the rest of the children if anyone would like them. William Carrigan's son, William Adams Carrigan (1792-1880, m. Nancy M. Holt) and five of his sons, after graduating from the University of NC, came to Arkansas. The sons were: Alfred Holt Carrigan (1828-1924), William Michael Carrigan (1832-1864), Robert Adams Carrigan (1835-1877), John Morehead Carrigan (1837-1861) and James Edwin Carrigan (1841-1864). All the sons but Alfred and Robert died while serving in the Confederate Army. My line comes down from James Carrigan, Jr. who married Margaret, maiden name unknown. Their daughter Mary "Polly" Carrigan (c.1800-bef.1850) married William S. Van Pelt (c.1799-1851) in Cabarrus Co., NC in 1821. Among their ten children was Mary Jane Van Pelt (1831-1905) who married Levi Bell (1812-1893) as his second wife in 1858. The second of their six children was Mary Rhetta Bell (1862-1947) who married Ernest Marion Field (1866-1902) in 1888. The seventh of their eight children was John Levi Field (1899-1963) my grandfather. I have pictures of Alfred Holt Carrigan and John Morehead Carrigan....and think they look a bit like Governor Huckabee, too....as well as my grandfather's resemblance to him. But then maybe I am just seeing what I'd like to see. Best Regards, John Field Pankow Asheville, NC Notify Administrator about this message?
