History of Lehigh County Pa., 1914
Huber's, I have some information of the Huber Family from the History of Lehigh County 1914. "The name Huber is German (hutre) and means guardian of a small tract of land or farm. It appears the family decended from a clan of Swiss farmers, as the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland was the orginal home of the Hubers. Records of Hubers go back eight hundred years in this area of Switzland. Hans Huber was one of the first migrants to Pennsylvania, came between 1710 and 1715. He settled near the village of New Holland, Lancaster County, Pa., then part of Chester County. He obtainded a tract of land two hundred arces, dated 11/22/17. There he died in 1750, and the land went to his son Jacob. Jacob deeded the land to his sons, John and Martin. Jacob moved to Rockingham VA., where many of his decendants live today.(1914)The History lists a large number of Hubers who died fighting for religious freedom in the 1500's. It also lists the following who fought for the United States during the Revolutionary War. John Huber, Lancaster Co., Albright Huber, Lancaster Co., Felix Huber, Lancaster Co.,and a Leonard, George, Brisben, Adam and Anthony Huber. In the war of 1812 we find: George, John, and Jacob Hoover (Huber) all of Lancaster Co. Pa. Martin Hoover was at the Battle of New Orleans with Andrew Jackson." This and more is in the History of Lehigh Co. Pa. published in 1914 Gregg Heilman, Huber
