Thomas Hubbs, Mary and William White
I had the opportunity to spend a few hours at the Tenn Archives last Friday. If you have been doing research on Thomas and his wife Mary you will know that it has been accepted that Mary's last name was White. This was based on the assumption that the land grant that Thomas Hubbs recieved in 1809 was from the "heirs of Willima White".We thought that this meant that Thomas inherited this land from his wife's father...thus she must be a "White".
Unfortunatly, I've found that this is not the case.William White recieved 2560 acres of Tennesse land based on his service as an officer during the Rev War.William sold off this land in parcels to many different folks who wanted the land.William probably was not even aquainted with Thomas Hubbs, and probably never even left North Carolina.
Asa Shute, Thomas's next door nieghbor also recieved 100 acers from the "hiers of William White".
So, I guess it is back to the drawing board on finding out who Mary was.
