Thomas Hubbs in West Tenn before 1812.
I ran across this on the web recently, it may be old news to some.This answers a question I had in regards to when Thomas Hubbs moved into Hickman County and west Tennesse.Now if we can figure out where he came from and who his parents were!This deed registry shows that Thomas Hubbs was in Hickman County before 1812.It is not his deed, but his land is mentioned in it "the north boundary line of a one hundred acre tract granted to THOMAS HUBBS by Grant No. 853."Maybe I can get to the Tenn Archive soon and look up this "Grant No. 853."

Registered Sept. 29th 1812
THIS INDENTURE made this 10th day of March one thousand eight hundred and
twelve between Asa Shute of the County of Davidson and State of Tennessee of
the one part and Robert TOTTY of the County of Hickman and State aforesaid
of the other part:
WITNESSETH: That the said Shute for and in consideration of the sum of six
hundred and twelve dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged and himself fully satisfied contented and paid hath bargained,
sold, aliened, enfeeoffed, conveyed and confirmed unto said TOTTY his heirs
and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situated, lying and
being in Hickman County on the North side of Duck River.
BEGINNING on two box elders on the north bank of Duck River fifteen poles
above the mouth of Dry Creek the beginning corner of Grant No. 858 running
up the meanders of Duck River one hundred and seventy eight poles to a large
black walnut and hackberry on the bank of said river the upper corner of
said Grant No. 858. and the lower corner of a grant of fifty acres
granted to a Asa Shute; thence up the meanders of said river to the upper
corner of said fifty acre tract ot an elm; the lower corner of Grant No.
3322 which was fourteen acres granted to Asa Shute running up the meanders
of said river fifty poles to a white oak and sugar tree; thence north twenty
seven poles to an ash; thence west thirty seven poles to a white oak on the
east boundary line of fifty acre tract that was granted to said Shute;
thence north with the line of said fifty acre tract to the north
east corner of said tract; thence west with the line of said tract to a
poplar and white walnut the south east corner of Grant No. 3319 thence west
with the line of said grant forty nine poles to an ash the corner of said
tract; thence south sixty six poles to a beach in said Shutes line on his
fifty acre tract thence west with the line of said fifty acre tract of the
northwest corner of said fifty acre tract; thence south with the line of
said fifty acre tract to the southwest corner of said fifty acre tract on
the north boundary line of a one hundred acre tract granted to THOMAS HUBBS
by Grant No. 853; thence west with the line of said one hundred acre tract
to a hickory the north West corner of said tract; thence south with line of
said one hundred acre tract to an ash the beginning corner of Grant No. 3773
running west sixty poles to a hickory an white walnut on the east side of a
branch; thence south sixty four poles to a sugar tree the south west corner
of a twenty four acre tract; thence east with the line of said
tract sixty poles to a stake; thence north four poles to the beginning,
containing two hundred and four and one half acres which said tract or
parcel of land the said Shute for himself, his heirs and etc. do convenant
to the within said TOTTY his heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend
said tract or parcel of land unto them with all and singular the benefits
and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to said
TOTTY his heirs etc. from the lawful claim and defend of all and
every person or person whatever. In Testimony wherof I hereunto set my hand
and affixed my seal the date before written.

On the back fo which deed was written:

HICKMAN COUNTY SS } The foregoing deed of conveyence was dulyacknowledged in open court. By Asa Shute to be his act and deed for the useand purposes therein contained and ordered to be registered.
