Many years ago, I researched the Hubble/Hubbell Family Tree as a 4-H project as a young girl. Recently, after seeing the new series "Who Do You Think You Are?", I have become interested again. I come from William Hezekiau Hubbell who married his first wife Cynthia Howell and had 6 children (William S., Thomas E., Chauncey, Essie, Martha Daniels and Florence or Viola Fultz). Cynthia died and then William H. married Ella (Howell) Helwig on 1/12/1882 in Auglaize County Ohio who already had five children of her own (Emma, William, John, George and Reney Helwig). Since Cynthia and Ella both had the Howell maiden name, were they sisters?
After Ella and William H. were married, they had an additional 9 children (Brian, Ethel, Lou, James, Charles, Bessie and 3 others that I do not have names.) All going by the Hubbell name.
William H. Hubbell's first son from his first marriage with Cynthia was named William Sanford Hubbell who married Emma J. Helwig on 6/22/1892. Emma was Ella (Howell) Helwig's first daughter. So they were step brother and sister or were they first cousins? Since Cynthia and Ella may have been sisters.
William Sanford Hubbell changed the spelling of the name to Hubble and his second son, Roy Lovette Hubble was my grandfather.
If this sounds familiar to anyone or if you have heard a different story as to the change in spelling or you are related to one of these 20 children. Please feel free to respond.
