From the book "A Military History of the Hubbell Family in North America":

Augustus Hubbell Private 41 Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company E

Augustus enlisted for 3 years at Cleveland, Ohio on 27 August 1861 as a 34 year old painter born in Syracuse, NY. He mustered in at Camp Wood, Cleveland, Oh and left for duty at Camp Wickliffe, KY until February 1862. Augustus was discharged at Camp Wickliffe "by reason of a wound in the abdomen caused by a kick from a horse while in the execution of duty, having been ordered to capture said (vicious)horse by his Commanding Officer".

No listing of any Augustus Hubbell's having served in The Mexican war can be found in this book.
