Hi Jim,
I was glad to hear from you, and sorry it's taken me so long to reply. My mom has been in very bad health, and I have just been snowed with seeing to her needs, so have not been able to spend as much time on genealogy as I like.
Lucky you getting to go to Hawkins County and to the Weddle reunion. That's too bad it's so difficult to get anything from the county clerk's office there. It seems I remember hearing that records were burned during the Civil War by the Northern soldiers, so probably a lot were lost.
I do feel certain now that John Hubbard was the son of John Hubbard Sr and his wife Easter(Esther) and thus our John would be a sibling of Rev. Aaron Hubbard. In my opinion, there are too many coincidences connecting some of these Hubbards in Indiana for them to not be of the same family. My aunt and I went to Washington and Scott Counties, Indiana this summer, and to both courthouses, and a lot of cemeteries, etc. to research, and came away even more convinced of the connection. I also believe that the answers may lie somewhere in Hawkins Co., or even in old North Carolina records before Tennessee became a state. It's intrigueing that John Hubbard says he was born in N.C., the older children of John Sr. say they were born in Virginia, and the younger ones in Tennessee. That could mean that the family went to Hawkins County shortly before John's birth when it was still in N.C., or he could have even been born enroute to Hawkins Co. from Virginia, I suppose.
Were you able to pinpoint an area where the Hubbard's and Weddle's lived in Hawkins Co. while you were there, or go to the local libraries? I'd love to go there and check out the area sometime!
Well, nice to hear from you, and do keep me informed of your new discoveries please, and I will do the same. Thanks.
Diane Jones
