Hello-
I am looking for information about my great(x4)-gradmother Mary Hoyt (?Haight) who was born about 1806 in New York State. I do not know anything about her parents or her exact birthplace.
She married Jesse Schouten (abt 1804 NY - after 1880), s/o Daniel and Lydia (LaDue) Schouten of Montgomery Co, NY. Jesse and Mary Schouten lived in Freetown, Cortland Co, NY. I know there are many Haights in Cortland Co, so the name may be Haight rather than Hoyt.
I did find a Jesse Schouten and family (wife, 1 son and 5 children) in Western Township, Oneida Co, NY in the 1840 census. I could not locate Jesse in the 1830 census.
Jesse and Mary Schouten were probably married about 1823-24, as their first child was born in 1824. They had at least four children; their names were John W (1824), Sarah E (1825), Mary (1836) and William H Schouten (1841). There were probably more children, given the 1840 census and the gap in my records between daughters Sarah and Mary Schouten.
Any help on this line would be appreciated.
