John Hoysted Empire Queen 1859
Hi again,
Re my earlier query, I just found a heap of Hoysteds who arrived on the Empire Queen in 1859 - misspelt as Hysted. A John, aged 20,was also included; obviously he was NOT on the same boat as Mary Ann. However, I am still trying to get the facts straight. According to the marriage document I have, John Hoysted was aged 26 on 26.9.1868 (date of the marriage) but if he was 20 on arrival in 1859, he'd have to have been at least 28. Can anyone confirm his birthdate?
I've enjoyed reading the various postings and stories. Betty Lambert can also remember Col. Hoysted visiting her aunt, Georgina Boothman nee Hoysted. Betty lived with the Boothmans after her mother Minnie was taken into care following a nervous breakdown. And I think I sold some Avon products to the Hoysteds in Mentone, about 30 years ago, before I knew anything of my mother-in-law's family history. Small world!
I probably don't have anything to contribute that the Hoysted researchers don't already know, but I'd be pleased to share what information I have if anyone thinks it might be useful.
