Greetings to All,

I am researching the Lappin, Francis, Hooker, Hoy, Hermann, Collins, Kendrick, Pendleton, Randalph / Randolph, Briley / Bryley, Lorance families of New York, Virginia & North Carolina.

Emma Jane Francis 1854-1923 of Norfolk, Virginia. Emma's father was Daniel Francis 1831-date of death unknown, born in New York possibly. Her mother was Mary Ann Lappin. Mary Ann was born in 1835 in England. Emma's sister was Cornelia Francis b. 1857. Emma married William Thomas Hoy 1855-1915 originally of Pasquotank, North Carolina. William Thomas was the son of John Hoy & Melissa/Melinia/Malissa Hooker both born Pasquotank, N.C. in 1928. John was the son of

Emma & William had the following children:

1) Leonard Leon b. 1878 Norfolk, VA m. Mamie Virgnia O'Brien, children: Ruth Magdalene (Hermann) 1899-1976, Grace Naomi 1900-1946 (Charles C. Collins) (Smith), Evelyn 1904-2001, Leonard Jr. 1904-1976, Mamie Cecilia 1904-1933 (Kendrick), Colleen 1909-1988, Esther Virginia 1911-1973(m. Leslie Dudley Pendleton of Lexington, Kentucky), Hannah Ruth 1913-1934 (m. Paul Randalph /Randolph of North Carolina), & William Thomas 1916-1972

After Mamie died, Leonard married Fanny L. Briley Randalph (Bryley Randolph) a widow from North Carolina. Fanny & her first husband George Randalph (b. 1876 North Carolina) had the following chilren: Paul 1907-1947 (believed to have married Leonard's daughter Hannah), Vadie S. born 1907, George L. 1909-1985. In addition they also raised from childhood orphaned younger cousins of Fanny: William Henry Briley Randalph (or Bryley Randolph) born abt 1895 and Rillie Briley Randalph born abt 1897. William Henry is listed also as Henry William. He has been listed as a son of Fanny & George's in the 1910 Census. But the 1900 Census shows him & Rillie living in the home of Fanny's father Louis (prior to her marriage to George) and lists he and Rillie as cousins (or niece & nephew?) of Louis and with the last name of Briley. In the 1930 Census, Henry and his wife Marnie (probably Mamie) are living as "boarders" with Leonard & Fanny, Hannah & Paul, & Rillie and her children.

2) Nora J. Hoy 1881 m. unknown Lorance, son: Charles Lorance b. 1908 Norfolk, VA

3) Lottie P. Hoy b. 1884

My great grandmother was Esther Virginia Hoy Pendleton.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Lori Maurer
