ADAM HOY was born in Hocking County, Ohio, March 26, l844, and came to Shelby County, Illinois in l847. He served in the Civil War, enlisting in l86l and was honorably discharged in l864. He was united in marriage to LAURA A. CORNELL in l875 and to this union were born three children, CLARENCE T., EMIA L., and MEMPHIS A.

In l893 he moved to Leroy, Iowa, where he resided until the death of MRS. HOY, in October, of l9l2. Most of the time since then he has made his home at the National Military Home, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where he died January 6th, l924, being at the time of his death, 79 years, l0 months and eleven days of age. During his residence at Leroy he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was quite well known in this part of the country and had a large number of friends who will regret to learn of his death. He served his country well and lived a useful and upright life.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Garden Grove, Tuesday, January 8th, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Young; interment being in the Garden Grove Cemetery.
