George W. Hoy Born 8/11/1823 - Connecticut
I am searching for information on my great-great-grandfather, George W. Hoy.He was born August 11, 1823, near Bridgeport, CT.According to his obituary, he moved with his family at the age of nine to New York, where they lived for about one year before moving to Toledo, Ohio. They lived there for "some time" before moving to Manchester, Washtenaw County, Michigan. There, he married Sarah L. Root on May 29, 1850.They had nine children, including Charles H., Frederick A., Frank L., Emma A., Egbert B. (Bert), Willis G., George W. Jr., and Edwin. The ninth may have been named Clarence (a two year old Clarence Hoy was buried near 14 year old Edwin in Manchester, Michigan).
In 1875, Charles moved to Monmouth, IL, to be later joined by his other brothers in the carpentry business.George Jr. died the day after his arrival in Monmouth, from diabetes, at the age of 18.George Sr. and Sarah moved to Monmouth in 1885.George died in Monmouth in 1908, and Sarah in 1914.
From obituaries, Frank was listed as living in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Emma (married Fred H. Hodgkins) and Egbert listed as living in Chicago (possibly Park Ridge - other Hoy's from Monmouth were known to have moved there).
I am also searching for George's parents, who must have moved to Manchester, Michigan. From the 1840 Census for Manchester, there was a listing for "C. H. Hoy".There was no male head of house, only a female age 30-40.There were 2 boys and three girls listed in the family. In the 1850 Census, I could not find George listed in Manchester, even though Sarah was there, listed as living with her mother and sisters.I did find a Delia Hoy listed, age 22, and born in Connecticut - possibly George's sister? From the 1820 Census for Fairfield County, Connecticut, I found a Charles Hoy.The information seems to agree with that of the "C.H. Hoy" listed in the 1840 MI Census.
Any information on the Hoy's from Connecticut or their descendents would be appreciated.
