From my experience, the Howell's being Welsh, most hair color, "unless you married into a scandivanian" is either brown to black.
There was a Howell that was Miss Alabama, 2 years ago. she was from our old home town of Goldsboro NC. Before ever seeing her picture, I knew her hair color was dark, and it was.
