John Howell and Bessie Wilson Skelt on Sugar Creek

Jeremiah Bell Howell was a son of John Howell and Bessie Wilson Howell on Skelt on sugar Creek.. The original Jeremiah was a Bell, not Howell, he was a merchant that was in a robbery.

Jeremiah Bell and his mother, Bessie Wilson Bell, travel into WVA and meet up with John Howell at Skelt on Sugar Creek. This union results in Jeremiah Bell Sr. "taking the name of Howell, never being sworn" . Jeremiah Bell Howell SR...continues to know as Howell when in actuality he is a Bell, according to lore. He married Jane Fisher, daughter of Soloman Fisher and Catherine Clifton.

Jeremiah Howell is actually a Bell. by blood. Jeremiah Jr. is my grandfather, my mother was an only child as Jerry and Barbara Ellen both died early on in 1900. My mother had to go live with an uncle.

I cannot claim the Howell heritage if this story is true. Does anyone know for sure ? Who was the Bell ?? How do I look for that family.? What will DNA reflect ??

Thanks..

LuRose Williams
Last survivor of the Jerry Howell Jr. line.
