Gilmore, b. ca. 1811, VA; to Belmont and Coshocton, OH; to Illinois

Gilmore Howell was born about 1811. His parents were John and Elizabeth (Bonham) Howell. I believe it is possible that Gilmore's name, which can also be a surname, might be a clue to some female ancestry. Is it possible that one of his grandmothers was born a Gilmore? While a published Bonham book suggests that Elizabeth Bonham was the daughter of Benjamin and Phoebe (Oney) Bonham, I doubt that this is accurate. Could Gilmore Howell's Bonham grandmother have been born a Gilmore? Alternatively, I am working on a THEORY that John Howell was the son of Hezekiah Howell of Loudoun and Fauquier Counties, in Northern Virginia. Could this Hezekiah Howell have married a Miss Gilmore and then had John in 1767?

If anyone can shed light on Gilmore Howell's grandmothers, or some other explanation of his somewhat unusual first name, please contact me directly at duaneaboggs@live.com.
