SC>GA>AL Howe Line
I'm trying to find out who the parents are for HIRAM HOWE, b. May 12, 1798 in SC. I suspect a possible link to DAVID HOWE, but haven't been able to make the connection. HIRAM HOWE d. Oct. 19, 1875 in Pike County, GA. My HOWE line went from SC>GA, and then about 1870, three sons of Hiram HOWE migrated to Randolph County and Chambers County, AL. While in GA, the HIRAM HOWE family lived in Jones County and Pike County, and some lived briefly in Putnam, Jasper and Newton Counties. I think this HOWE line came out of York County, SC into GA. but I just haven't been able to connect them directly.
HIRAM HOWE married Martha "Patsy" GAMMON on 12 Jan 1827 in Jones Co., GA., a daughter of Willis GAMMON and Rebecca WILLIS of Columbia Co., GA.
Hiram and Patsy Gammon HOWE named their first child Alexander Akin HOWE, b. 31 Jan 1827 in Jones County, GA. (The AKIN and EAKIN surnames seems to have been interchageable. I haven't found how Alexander EAKIN/AKIN connects to this family, but it must be a close association since the first son was given that name.) Alexander Akin HOWE died on 11 Jan 1832 in Jones Co., GA.
Other children of Hiram HOWE and Martha "Patsy" GAMMON were:
Rebecca E. HOWE, b. 08 Jul 1829 in Jones Co., GA. She married Thomas J. COOK 21 Dec 1850 in Pike Co., GA.
Jane Elmyra Ann HOWE, b. 26 Jul 1831, Jones Co., GA.
Francis Marion HOWE (male), b. 02 May 1834, Jones Co., GA. He married Susannah "Susan" Randle COOK 01 Feb 1853 in Pike Co., GA. They moved to Randolph Co., AL. He enlisted in the AL Confederate Army, and died during the Civil War.
William Thomas HOWE, b. 27 Feb 1836, Jones Co., GA. He moved to AL about the time his brother, Francis did. He also enlisted in the AL. Confederate Army, and died, May 1862 at the Shimbrazo Confederate Hospital in Richmond, VA.
David Rucker Tinsley HOWE, b. July, 1838, Jones Co., GA. He moved to AL, along with his two brothers. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in AL and was captured in the "Battle of the Wilderness" on 06 May 1864. He died in the Union Prison in Elmira, New York and is buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
Martha Ann Sarah HOWE, b. 13 Sep 1840, Jones Co., GA. She d. 10 Jun 1909, Upson Co., GA. She married I. C. PERDUE.Both are buried in Upson County.
James Madison HOWE, b. 24 Dec 1842, Jones Co., GA.He enlisted in the Barnesville Blues Company D, 3rd Georgia Battalion. He was sent to a confederate hospital from the Battle of Missionary Ridge. There were no further record of him after 07 Nov 1864, when he most probably died.
Nancy Caroline HOWE, b. 26 Jan 1846, Pike Co., GA. She d. 15 Nov 1849, Pike Co., GA.
Mary Cordelia HOWE, b. 19 Jun 1848, Pike Co., GA. She d. 07 Apr 1930 in Upson Co., GA.
Jasper Newton HOWE, b. 07 Feb 1851, Pike Co., GA. He d. 05 Feb 1903 in Jeff Davis Co., GA. He married Martha Arabella BUSSEY on 27 Dec 1875.
************************************
The David Howe, mentioned earlier, migrated to GA from SC (prob. York Co.) and lived in Putnam Co. in 1810. He married Elizabeth unknown. He later moved to Jones Co., GA. Jones Co., is where Hiram HOWE lived, prior to moving to Pike Co., GA with his family. David HOWE died in 1821 in Jones Co. William J. Howe, son of David and Elizabeth Howe, later moved to Pike Co., GA. He married Lucinda R. FAMBROUGH on 02 Jun 1837 in Monroe Co., GA. They are on the Tax Rolls of Monroe Co., GA. in 1847, 1850, 1851. They are on the 1850 Monroe Co. Census. By 1860, William J. HOWE and Lucinda are on the Pike County, GA Census.
A possible Akin/Eakin clue:
William L. FAMBROUGH married Sarah M. AKIN on 20 Jul 1837 in Monroe Co.,GA. When Sarah Akin FAMBROUGH died, in 1869, Monroe Co., GA. (Will Abstracts), her brother, Warren AKIN, was named Executor of her Will. She also listed a sisters, Mary (w. of Stephen H. TUCKER), Jane (w of Robert C. TUCKER), Elizabeth YOUNG, widow, Caroline (w of William SCARBROUGH).
Also of interest, a William E. AKIN, JP, witnessed a transaction between Elizabeth HOWE and Henry B. WILSON for sale of 100 acres of land on 17 Dec 1835, in the 6th Dist., lot 161, where Elizabeth was living at the time, in Monroe Co., GA. The other witness was son, William J. HOWE.
Monroe Co. Deed Book I, p. 207.
There may also be a possible link to Robert HOWE of York Co. SC, who married Susannah GRAY in Baldwin Co., GAdaughter of James GRAY. Evidently, Susannah's father lived for a time in Pike Co., GA, where my HOWE line was living. Robert HOWE died in Taylor Co. GA. Robert HOWE was in Pike Co., GA for the birth of his daughter, Catherine, in 1812.Robert HOWE was in Jones Co., GA for the marriage of daughter, Martha Caroline in 1821.
In 1825, he was in Crawford Co., GA for the marriage of daughter, Mary Jane. He was also there in 1831, for the marriage of daugher, Elizabeth.
Son, William James HOWE married in Upson Co., GA. in 1842, as did another son, John Thomas HOWE in 1845.
In 1847, daughter, Susan Sophrona married in Crawford Co., GA.
These families seemed to be in close proximity to each other on many occasions. Can anyone help connect these HOWES? I believe that Robert and David HOWE are brothers, both from York Co., SC. I think that my Hiram HOWE somehow figures into this family, but in what way???
