straighting out Pontius Woolley
For a long time some Woolley and Howard family researchers have thought the parents of Lydia Valeriah Woolley (1737 to 1813) who married Zephaniah Howard (1731 to 1813) were Pontius Woolley and Content Palmer. Actually Pontius Woolley was Lydia Valeriah's BROTHER. Here is the restated tree:
Poncet (Pontius) Stelle (de Lorieres), a Huguenot, born c.1635 in France; died c.1735 in Monmouth Co., New Jersey married Eugenia Le Gereau born c.1660 in France; died 1710 in Monmouth Co., NJ.
Their son: Gabriel Stelle (born Feb. 1685 in New York City; died 25 Nov. 1738, Perth Amboy, New Jersey) married Elizabeth Woolley (28 May 1685 to 19 July 1723), daughter of Edward Woolley and Lydia Allen.
Their daughter: Lydia "Lida" Stelle (born 1709; died ??) married her cousin Edward Woolley, son of either George or William Woolley. Their children included:
1. Lydia Valeriah Woolley (17 March 1737 to 25 April 1813) who married Zephaniah Howard (10 Sept. 1731 to 16 Oct. 1813)
2. Pontius Woolley (20 Jan. 1739 to 25 Jan. 1814) married Content Palmer (born 8 August 1749, Stonington, New London, CT), daughter of Joseph Palmer (1717 to 1791) and Zipporah Billings (1715 to c.1765)
Pontius Woolley was named after his uncle Pontius Stelle (1705 to 1770), who was named after his grandfather Poncet or Pontius Stelle (c.1635 to c.1735).
