Until recently, I was not aware that my grandfather, William Raymond Hovis Sr., had any siblings. He was born July 21, 1888 in Missouri. Later that year, or possibly in 1889, he traveled with my great grandfather, John Hovis, and great grandmother, Rebecca (Graham) Hovis from Missouri to settle in Montana. The 1900 census records for Fergus County, Montana reflect John and Rebecca Hovis's household to include my grandfather, William R., and (apparently) my great aunt, Florence V. Hovis. The census records reflect that Florence was born in July, 1893. The 1910 census for Powell County, Montana reflects that John and Rebecca had relocated to Deer Lodge, Montana. Their daughter, Florence, remained in their household at the time of the census. After the 1910 census, I hit a brick wall. If anybody might be able to help me with anything further on Florence V. Hovis, I'd appreciate it. My line prior to my great grandfather, John Hovis, is: 2xG grandfather Solomon 3xG grandfather Jacob Sr. 4xG grandfather Rev. John 5xG grandfather George my great, great grandfather). Solomon is indicated to have married Ann (no maiden surname available). Solomon and Ann are reported to have had two sons, Abel and John, and five daughters, Margaret, Rose, Selene, Sarah and Emma. Of this generation, John (my great grandfather) married Becky Graham and to them at least one son, William (my grandfather), was born on July 21, 1888 in Fredricktown, Missouri. John, Becky and at least their son,William, migrated to Montana in either 1888 or 1889 (indications are that they were among a group of folks that migrated from Missouri to Montana). William married Clara Wieland on March 24, 1918 in Billings, Montana. To William and Clara were born two sons, William, Jr. and Richard (my father). I'd like to try to identify the maiden surname of my great, great grandfather Solomon's wife. Anybody out there that might be able to help? It's unclear to me whether my great grandfather, John Hovis, had any siblings. If there's anybody out there who might be able to shed any light on this, I'd appreciate it. Also, if there's anybody out there that has information regarding George Hovis of North Carolina (circa 1760)and succeeding generations, I'd like to correspond. I'm also interested in George's European forebears. Notify Administrator about this message?
