I rely heavily upon Robert (Bob) Joseph Hovis's epic work, "Hovis Tree Country." It appears "your" William Melchi Hovis was the son of Jacob R. Hovis Jr. and Fannie C. (Hoffman) Hovis. My g-g-grandfather, Solomon Hovis, and Jacob R. Hovis Jr. were brothers. "My" Solomon Hovis married Ann Summey and among their children was my g-grandfather John Hovis. "My" John Hovis married Rebecca Graham. John and Rebecca also migrated from Madison County, Missouri to Montana (in 1888 or 1889 I believe). I don't know that I can fill in many blanks for you by way of particulars, but hopefully I might come up with information that's of interest/use to you. I will gladly correspond.
