Thanks for taking the time to respond with all this information.

If this John Q. Houts was in 1870 Kansas census he must have left for Las Vegas, NM shortly after the census data was compiled. It appears he might have arrived in Las Vegas in 1870.

I think this John Q. Houts may have removed from Sioux Falls, S.D. to around Superior, Wisconsin. If you have any records of him in Wisconsin I'd apprecate them.
