To add to the mystery, Ward Berry is in the household of Isaac & Sarah (Ramer) Houseworth, 1880 census; he is their grandson. He is 6, b. 1874. The John Houseworth who adopted Emma Berry is probably the son of Valentine Houseworth (see 1850 census, Berkley Va.) I believe Valentine and Isaac are brothers, sons of Isaac Houseworth b. abt 1765 in Penn) and Isaac (b. 1807) is an uncle of John Houseworth. I think all of these Houseworths came from Penn (prob Bucks Co.). This does not answer your cental question, but maybe you can find some clues.
