She was the daughter of parents born in Scotland.

Rita Houghton (79811); 1930 U.S. Federal Census,, Brooklyn, Kings, New York; Roll: 1542; Enumeration District: 1624; page 126; sheet 1A; line 37; dwl 897-6-9; Ibid; was born circa 1898 in NY, USA, age 32 in 1930 census; Ibid. Her married name was Hoffmeister (79811); Ibid. She married Joseph Hoffmeister (79812) in circa 1922 age 19 and 24; Ibid. She and Joseph Hoffmeister (79812) appeared in the census of 1930 of Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, USA, age 27, brokerage clerk; Ibid. She was the daughter of father born in NY, mother born Scotland; Ibid.
