This is not a name that I am researching but thought I’d see if I could help a bit. If you search the Nova Scotia Vital Statistics site you should be able to fill in some blanks. I did a quick search and found the marriage of Harriett (Hattie) Houghton dau of James to James William Leigon in 1916 and marriage of Clifford Elias Houghton to Edith Cook in 1918. Also marriage of their parents James Haughton (note spelling when doing a search) and Jane Aker. You can probably find more with a little careful searching. www.novascotiagenealogy.ca The 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census is at www.automatedgenealogy.com James and Louisa are there in 1901 with children Minnie, b 1879; Georgina, b 1883; Clifford, b 1888; Hattie, b 1895 and Clarence, born 1899. Adopted son Charles is last and is born 1887 In 1911 Jennie is living in the household of Judson MacDonald as a domestic with her 4 youngest children. She is still recorded as married but it appears that James is living elsewhere. Possible the James Houghton age 71 who also has in his household an Alice Lantz single, age 40 and Peter Lantz her son age 6..There is also a death certificate on the Vital Statistic site for a James Haughton of about the right age, who died of tuberculosis in 1914 after suffering with the disease for at least two years. Remember that he was much older than his wife. It’s possible that she came to the place where she had to fend or herself and her youngest children, All this of course is conjecture but worth further research.
