Yes, I am sure about Isaac.I know of several other researchers who have also found what found.Michigan has a "gendex" on-line.Isaac's death is listed there, but be careful about the spelling of the last night.Off the top of my head I do not remember. It is different from those I have seen (though I am told there are about 51 different variations). Also, 1870 census for Michigan, including Gunn Plains, Allegahn County is on-line.It includes Thomas Fairbrother, with a man in the Household Isaac's age.
As for Sarah Brown Houghtaling, I have very little information about her.I see a Sarah Houghtaling or an S. H. Houghtaling in the following census records:
1850-Starkey, Yates County, NY
1855-Barrington, Yates County, NY
1860-Starkey, Yates County, NY
1870-Barrington, Yates County, NY
1870-Starkey (S. H. Houghtaling)
1875-Starkey (S. H. Houghtaling)
I never thougth it could be her.I thought perhaps she had died. The Sarah in Barrington is could be a different one, though.I know there are two Isaacs in the region, though one is younger. Also, since I do not know her middle initial, I am not sure about S. H. Houghtaling.
I really do not know if the above is the same Sarah or not.Is it is, could Sarah and Isaac be living apart?Cetainly.I have situation like this in another ancestoral family. The wife and husband divorced quietly and hid it fairly well. She lists herself as a widow, using her married name and lives with some of her grown children in cenuses. Her husband in the meantime is alive and well. She also marries twice after.Researchers prior to me thought he had died because of her being called a widow in the censuses.
Perhaps, Isaac and Sarah divorced.Perhaps they just separated.
I would appreciate any information about Sarah, including clarification of the above census records, if you can.
There are several sites on the Internet that contain Isaac's ancestors. Some are better than others. If you want them, I can send them to.Several are on rootsweb.com in the family trees section.
I am intrigued now!Thanks!
