James M. MERRIMAN and Sarah Alice HOTT

On the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900, there is two (2) James M. Merrimans listed. One in Piatt County and one in Fayette County. I am looking for the one that is a son of Bryant Henderson Merriman aka B. H. Merriman aka Hender Merriman aka Hence/Hense Merriman and Mary Ann McCarty from Fayette Co., IL.

I have some info on the James M. Merriman in Piatt Co., IL, but not sure who his parents are. He married Sarah Alice HOTT on March 11, 1883. They had at least six (6) children; Virginia/Virgie, Marshal, Berintha/Bertha, Ruth M., George, and Ralph Baker Merriman. I thought this James was Bryant Merriman's son, but I have my doubts since I've seen the marriage index with two (2) James M. Merrimans.

The James M. Merriman in Fayette County, IL married Adeline WHITTEN on August 11, 1887. I don't have anymore on this James M. Merriman. Hopefully, someone out there has some info on him. This may be the son I am looking for.

It would help me add info to the info I have on the sons of Bryant Henderson MERRIMAN and Mary Ann MCCARTY of Fayette Co., IL. Their sons were John, James M., Curtis, Charles Sumner, and Thomas Roe Merriman. I have info on Curtis, Charles Sumner, and Thomas Roe Merriman, but not on John and James M. Merriman.

Bryant Henderson MERRIMAN was a mystery to me for a long time. He was listed in the censuses as follows:

1850 Fayette Co., IL; Bryant H. MERRIMAN
(with his mother, Margaret SCRIBNER Merriman, father dead)

1860 Fayette Co., IL; B.H. MERRIMAN
(with his aunt Elizabeth MERRIMAN Anderson, mother dead)

1870 Fayette Co., IL; Hender MERRIMAN
(with 1st wife, Mary Ann McCARTY, she died)

1880 Fayette Co., IL; Bryant MERRIMAN
(with 2nd wife, Alice HENDERSON and 6 children)

1900 Marion Co., AR; Bryant MERRIMAN (with partial family)

I'm not sure about the way Bryant MERRIMAN's name was given in the 1880 and the 1900 censuses. By the 1900's he used the name Hence/Hense MERRIMAN. That is what my grandfather (Willis/Poppy MERRIMAN) said his name was. It was really hard to find someone with that name until I discovered from other relatives what Bryant MERRIMANs real given name was.

If anyone has any info on the two older sons of Bryant MERRIMAN, John and James M. MERRIMAN, I really would appreciate your sharing and I will share what I have if anyone needs it. I believe that John and James M. MERRIMAN stayed in IL when Bryant and Alice moved to the Ozarks of MO and AR about 1883 with the younger children (5 boys and 1 girl).

Love to hear from researchers of this line or other researchers with info.
