James W. & Cynthia Hotchkiss, Michigan, PLZ HELP
If anyone can be of any help, I cannotexpress what it would mean to me. My great great grandfather was James W. Hotchkiss born New York 1824 & married Cynthia ( census also spells it Cinthia ). They moved to Carlton, Barry County, Michigan by 1850 census records. Problems are, all records were lost in a massive fire in Carlton many years ago. I have no idea who his parents, brothers or sisters were.
Their children were ;
Lydia b. 1848, Lydia was only child born in New York.George W.b.1851 ( my great grandfather ), Lucy b. 1855,Emma b. 1857,Delia b. 1861, Sarah b. 1869&Lenorab. 1870.All buttheoldest, Lydia, were born in Carlton, Barry County, Michigan, however, all records of each birth, marriage or death were also lost in the towns fire. AllI can find are the 1850, 1870 & 1880 census records & a Union military records for James W. Hotchkiss who joined the Union, 2nd. Calvery at age 36 yr. for a 1 year span.
James & Cynthia`s son, George W. Hotchkiss, married a woman who went by Melissa, Lizzie & Elizabeth Strauss. They lived most their lives in the Mecosta, Bug Rapids, Michigan area.
Their children were ;
Fadeliab. 1876,Berthab. 1878,Fredb. 1881,Johnb. 1882,Bessieb. 1884, Rosab. 1889, RubyorRoxieb.1889,Gracieb. 1882 - d. 1883,Tressa b. 1894&Harryb.1897.
