Alfred Hosman was born in Loudoun County, Virginia. At age 8 the family moved to Fayette County Kentucky. His father Esaias died in 1831 (hard to read, possibly 1834)His mother died in 1843.Alfred was the youngest child (I have no idea how many siblings he had)and was home schooled in the counties of Fayette and Scott Counties. He was married in Scott county, Kentucky, December 23, 1830 to Martha H. Cox, who diedAugust 9, 1839 (about 2 months after giving birth to Martha Hanah Hosman). They were blessed with 4 children: b. in Scott County, Kentucky.
1.Sarah Ann Hosman b. 1-1-1831 m. James P.
Redfern 9-22-1853.
2.Nancy Elizabeth Hosman b. 11-23-1834
m. Richard Rose 10-25-1853
3.James William Hosman b. 12-6-1836 (does
not show a spouse -but could this be
your William?)
4.Martha Hanah Hosman b. 6-24-1839 m. James
McKee 7-9-1856
Alfred went to Missouri in 1841 where he married for the second (2) time to Miss Mary C Boone, of Boone Township, Greene County, Mo.She was the 9th daughter of Nathan Boone, the youngest child of the famous Daniel Boone. This marriage was blessed with 13 children .Shortly after his second marriage he moved back to Kentucky and lived on the homestead until the death of his mother. He then moved back to Greene County, MO. He lived there unil 1863 when the country became unsettled and he movedhis family t Howard County September of that year.March,1864 he moved to Illinois,
near Bloomington until 1865 until when he came back to Missouri and lived in Springfield about 2 years where he now lives in Boone Township, Greene County, where he does farming on a big scale, and is one of the first citizens of the county. He was probably one of the oldest master masons in the county.H was madea member of the Benevolent Lodge No. 58 in Fayette County, KY in 1843Mr. Hosman has served as schoolmaster for many years and has been a leading member of the Baptist Church sine 1850.
Looks to me like there may be a connection with him moving back to Illinois.Maybe the William is a middle name.I wrote so much because these dates can help you connect. Also can check the Masonic Lodge records.Sept. 18-19 Ash Grove, Mo has a Nathan Boone Rendezvous and I may try to go this year.I have a cousin, and more Hosman relatives I do not know as well, in Ash Grove and I may be able to learn more about Alfred, and more! They turn out for the Rendezvous!
Mary Boone Hosman, Alfred's wife, lived with this cousin later years. She was his grandmother.Hope this isn't too lengthy, but I feel there is a good possibility you connect with Alfred's first wife.I would like to find out from relatives if Mary Boone raised these kids - I would assume so.
Let me know what you find out after searching more and I will let you know when I find out more about Alfred, his siblings, etc.At least I know he is the youngest.
Good Luck!!Maxine
