Carl Horstmann

I'm looking for anyone with information about the Carl Horstmann who was medievalist. Between about 1872 and 1910 he published a number of editions and articles, including The Early South-English Legendary, Altenglische Legenden, Leben Jesu and quite a few others.

This isn't a geneology request really. I'm a Penn State English professor with a shared interest in many of the texts he worked with, especially the South English Legendary. Carl Horstmann just sort of disappeared from the scholarly world and none of us knows what happened to him. The real Holy Grail for me would be to find a photograph of him. None is known to the scholarly world, despite his many accomplishments.

If you know anything about him or are a descendant, please contact me at TRL1@psu.edu.

THANK YOU

Tom Liszka
