Here is an update on the details I have so far:

I am hoping someone out there can help in some small way to find where these people, that I am looking for, originally came from!
I will start at the first step with my father in law - JAMES WILLIAM BURNS b 12TH MAY 1916 AMBLE, NORTHUMBERLAND.

His parents were - PETER JAMES BURNS b circa JUNE 1876 IN FORD, NORTHUMBERLAND. HE MARRIED CATHERINE ELIZABETH TURNBULL b circa 1876 IN DUDLEY COLL, NORTHUMBERLAND. THEY MARRIED CIRCA DEC 1898 IN ALNWICK, NORTHUMBERLAND. THEIR FIRST CHILD WAS BORN IN 1899 - HUGH AND THEN CAME MARGARET IN 1900. WE DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY OTHER CHILDREN THERE WERE BETWEEN MARGARET AND JAMES BUT KNOW THERE WERE AT LEAST TWO OR THREE MORE BROTHERS ALL BORN IN THE NORTHUMBERLAND AREA. PETER JAMES WAS A PLATELAYER IN 1901 - 1916. IN 1901 THEY WERE IN WEETSLADE IN NORTHUMBERLAND AND BY 1916 HAD MOVED TO AMBLE.

PETER'S PARENTS WERE - HUGH BURNS BORN AROUND 1852 IN RERRICK, DUMFRIES, SCOTLAND. MOTHER WAS JANE HORSBURGH BORN AROUND 1850 - 1851 IN SCOTLAND. THEY WERE MARRIED ON 11TH DECEMBER 1875 IN HUTTON, BERWICK, SCOTLAND. PETER WAS THEIR FIRST CHILD IN 1876 FOLLOWED BY ALEXANDER IN 1877, HUGH IN 1879 - 1880 AND WILLIAM IN 1881. THEY WERE LIVING IN TINDALE HOUSE FARM, TWIZELL IN BERWICK, NORTHUMBERLAND IN 1881 WHERE HUGH WAS AN AGRICULTURAL LABOURER. IN 1901 THEY WERE LIVING AT HEPSCOTT MOOR, HEPSCOTT, MORPETH NORTHUMBERLAND AND HAD THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN:

JOHN 1883
ELIZABETH 1884
AGNES 1887
GEORGE 1888
ROBERT 1890
ALL THE ABOVE WERE BORN IN FORD, NORTHUMBERLAND
JAMES 1892 KYLO, NORTHUMBERLAND
DAVID 1893 RENNINGTON, NORTHUMBERLAND

HUGH JR 1879-1880 WAS LIVING IN TOGSTON TERRACE, TOGSTON, WANSBECK WITH HIS UNCLE AND AUNTIE - WILLIAM WALLACE 1846 AND ELLEN WALLACE 1840. WILLIAM WAS BORN IN SCOTLAND AND ELLEN WAS BORN IN BRANXTON, NORTHUMBERLAND. HUGH WAS REPORTED AS BLIND

HUGH (SR) WAS STILL WORKING AS AN AGRICULTURAL LABOURER AT THIS TIME. WE THINK HIS PARENTS COULD BE JOHN BURNS (b around 1826 - Minnigaff, Dumfries) AND ELIZABETH CROSS (b around 1826 - 1830) THEY MARRIED IN KIRKMABRIGHT IN 1848

CATHERINE'S FATHER WAS - THOMAS TURNBULL b CIRCA DEC 1845 - 1846 IN CHILLINGHAM, NORTHUMBERLAND. MOTHER WAS MARGARET b CIRCA 1848 - 1849 IN WOOLER, NORTHUMBERLAND. MARGARET AND THOMAS MARRIED IN ALNWICK CIRCA MAR 1873 AND HER MAIDEN NAME WAS MILLS.THERE WERE THREE DAUGHTERS - ISABELLA b CIRCA 1875, CATHERINE ELIZABETH b 1876 AND MARY. E. b CIRCA 1880. THOMAS WAS A FIREMAN AT THE COALMINE AND AN ENGINE DRIVER. AT THE TIME OF THE 1881 CENSUS THEY LIVED AT BACK HIGH LANE, LONGBENTON, NORTHUMBERLAND.

IN THE 1901 CENSUS THEY ARE REPORTED AS LIVING AT BRAMSHAUGH COTTAGES, GUYZANCE, ACKLINGTON, BERWICK ON TWEED.
ISABELLA WAS STILL LIVING AT HOME, AND THEY HAD TWO MORE DAUGHTERS - LUCY T. 1884 BORN IN BENTON AND JANE M. 1886 BORN IN CHOPPINGTON.
MOTHER IN LAW, JANE MILLS b 1823 IN WOOLER ALSO LIVED AT THE HOUSE
AT THIS TIME THOMAS WAS A CARTER ON A FARM AND ISABELLA, LUCY AND JANE WERE FARM SERVANTS

THERE IS ALSO FURTHER INFO IF WE FIND JOHN AND ELIZABETH TO BE HUGH'S PARENTS.
JOHN BURNS(b1826) WAS THE SON OF HUGH BURNS(b 1791 ST QUIVOX) AND AGNES MAR(R)S(b MAY 1790 LANGHOLM, DUMFRIES)(m 18TH MAY 1823 IN PENNINGHAME, WIGTOWN).
THIS HUGH (1791) WAS THE SON OF HUGH BURNS AND MARY WILLIAMSON.
AGNES MARRS WAS THE DAUGHTER OF JAMES MARRS (b 1768 KENNOWAY) AND BRIDGET BEATTIE. JAMES AND BRIDGET WERE MARRIED IN GRETNA IN 1781.
JAMES MARRS WAS THE SON OF JOHN MARS AND KATHRINE GRAY.

As we get more details we will place them on this board but if there are any links at all - however small! - please contact us

Thank you for taking the time to read this and Good Luck to everyone in their searches
