Hello Jim,
Thanks for replying to my query. The Hornsby family gets very complicated and sometimes hard to unravel all of the connections.
HERE IS A REPLY TO YOUR NOTES:
1900 Census District 7 Clay City Kentucky - Job B Hornsby age 52 married 30 years, Elizabeth age 52 Wife married 30 years mother of 4 children all living, James H 16 Son, Sarah age 13 Daughter, Olley age 11 Daughter, Danil Robinson age 22 Step Son, William Robinson age 84 Father in law.
NOTE 3: It appears that this 1900 couple's four children are all the children of Elizabeth since she had 4 children all living.
ELIZABETH'S CHILDREN:
Ancestry.com shows that Elizabeth had three children from her first marriage: Lucy, b ca 1870,Martha Jane Patsy, born ca 1872 and Daniel b ca 1878.If Ollie was her child, that would make four living children.
James Harvey Hornsby and Sarah Hornsby were children of Job and Martha.Regarding Sarah Hornsby:
The 1900 Clay Co. Census states her birthdate as Aug 1886, this is the record I used. Her death record from Ohio Deaths 1908-1953 states birth as 5 Aug 1888, 55 years, 2 months, 3 days.Death Record:Spouse, Daniel Hornsby, Father, J. B. Hornsby, Mother, Martha Lunsford.Burial 7 Aug 1943, cemetery not listed.
James Harvey Hornsby was born ca 1884; I don’t have a death date for him.He married Susan Short and they had several children.
Your note:
So it appears that Olley Hornsby was the daughter of Elizabeth (Robinson) Hornsby.
Ollie’s tombstone birth record leaves some confusion. Her sister’s (Sarah) birthdate was 5 Aug 1886. Ollie’s tombstone reads 12 Mar 1886.Of course, Sarah’s birth date is from her death record, which is only as good as what the informant can remember, we always have to keep that in mind.
It would really help if the 1890 census had not been destroyed, it would answer a lot of questions we all have!
How are you descended from the Hornsbys? My line is: Thomas Hornsby and Jeminah, his son, Job and his wife, Sarah Robinson, their son, George Washington Cottrell, his son, George Washington Cottrell, Jr., his son, Joseph Cottrell, then me.Lorraine Cottrell Moffat
We are bound to be cousins in some way or another!
Lorraine
