Leonard Hornsby / Harmsby Mistranscription

I have just found the family of Leonard Macom Hornsby and Martha Ann Chandler in the U. S. Census for 1870. The Hornsby surname had been mistranscribed as Harmsby. The family is living in District 72, Precinct 2, Hill Co., Texas. The household members are listed as follows:
Martha Hornsby (Harmsby), age 42 F., W., Farmer, born in Mississippi, value of real estate: $500, value of personal property: $175.
Hardy Hornsby, age 19, M., W., born in Texas.
Joanna Hornsby, age 17, F., W., born in Texas.
Macon (Macom) Hornsby, age 15, M., W., born in Texas.
Mary Hornsby, age 15, F., W., born in Texas.
Lenard (Leonard Jasper) Hornsby, age 11, M., W., born in Texas.
Martha Hornsby is listed in the position of the head of household, with the occupation of farmer. Her husband, and father of the children, Leonard Macom Hornsby, is not listed in the household at this time. I cannot find him listed anywhere else in 1870. I think that it is sensible to conclude that Leonard Macom Hornsby died before 1870, in Texas. The fact that his youngest son, Leonard Jasper Hornsby, was 11 years old in this 1870 census, and 1 year old in the U. S. Census for 1860, Precinct 7, Polk Co., Texas (where, by the way, their surname Hornsby has been mistranscribed as Hainsey), I would conclude that Leonard Macom Hornsby died some time between 1860 and 1870.
There has been much inaccuracy published on the history, and family tree, of this family group. That is mostly, I am sure, because of these dratted mistranscriptions of the surname Hornsby. It took me three years to find them as "Harmsbys".
Please feel free to contact me with information and/or questions about this branch of the Hornsby family. They have many, many descendants. several of whom are hard at work, trying to get this mess straightened out.
